Following the tireless work of British Association of Dental Therapists and British Society of Dental Hygienists and Therapists, dental exemptions have now been approved within legislation.

Following a training course in exemptions from the Human Medicines Regulations, Dental Therapists and Dental Hygienists will legally be able to supply and administer specified prescription only medicines without the need for a patient specific direction or patient group direction.

Existing and currently valid Patient Group Directions are still a legal route of administration for prescription only medicines. However, clinicians administering prescription only medications indepedently should now transition over to using the exemptions process.

Dr Beth Pasfield and Mr Deepak Simkhada have designed a comprehensive online interactive course in the exemptions process. This full day course meets all requirements set out in legislation and importantly provides and a detailed refresher on local anaesthetics.
